April - May 2043
It's only five months later Aiden re-contacts his manager, Cameron Stirling.
The poor man is hopelessly looking for him and haven't got any news from or about him after the end of his first act. And Sissy just have his mail that he couldn't check at Hogwarts. So, Cam sent him a mail to tell him that his first act in the screen is a success since the second season of The borough is diffused and all the net talks about his act. And some other proposition to play.
He hesitates for a long time (one day) because he isn't sure if his dad will accept he returns in the United States and to be honest, he doesn't know if he really wants this profession. But then Sissy sends him a mail too, asking him to spent some times with the Jenson (whose children totally adopted him) like to dinner on the 1st may. His dad accepts that he goes wherever he wants via the international floo network to see his friend and without asking who it is but (and of course there is a but) he has to be at Hogwarts the next morning.
So on the first May, he's at the Jenson's porch and knocking on their door. The elder child, Elizabeth, welcomes him.
"Hey, Lizzy," he greets her with a wide grin.
She smiles back without a word and moves back to let him enter. Inside, Corey greets him by jumping on him to surprise him, he said. But Aiden is accustomed with little boys who want to play with him so he catches the younger boy easily and makes him spin in the air, Corey's giggly madly.
"Hey, Eli," Colton says.
"Hey, Colton," Aiden smiles putting down his half-brother on the floor.
Then he's greeted by his mother with a hug and he melts into that embrace.
God, he misses her.
Especially her scent, he just want to be locked up in her arms and tell her how he loves her. But all good things have end and he shakes Liam's hand to greet him.
They are all around the dinner table and eat vegans foods talking things and other, laughing time to time. Then the dinner ends and all the children are rising up to help cleaning but refuse Eli to do anything. They're all leave until it's just Sissy and him.
"So, how are you, Eli?"
"I'm fine, mum."
"You're still on your role?"
He doesn't notice his mistake until Sissy smiles knowingly at him.
"Oh, yeah," he laughs awkwardly because he just answers with what he really feels like.
"I think we should have a word."
"Yeah, sure."
They go outside, in the garden and sit on the swing. They stay silent for awhile and let the spring breeze blows on them. But then Sissy turns toward him and smiles softly.
"What do you want to do, my boy?"
"I... At first, I just wanted to be close to you, because you're my star and I really, really admire you."
"I'm really flattered, Eli. Thank you, you're the very only one who told me those pretty things."
"It isn't just flattering, I'm really your huge fan."
"Thank you. I like your act too, you're really enlightening, and it catches the public attention," Sissy confesses him and after sharing a smile she speaks up again: "And now? What do you think once you tried show-business?"
"It's...awesome. I didn't think it could be that joyful. I mean, I learn some stuffs that I never expected in my whole life and I met many people who taught me a lot of things and there is really funny thing to talk to fans. And... I think- I think that if we can work together it'll be good."
"You seem pretty clear with your mind. What about your studies? You said that you don't think you will end but then you disappear for five months to continues the said studies, it isn't really clear."
"Well... My dad wants me to continue."
"Oh. I see. Ok, I don't know your dad," Eli smiles sadly at this "but I think he may be right. Show-business isn't the best work in the world, there is up and down and the latter could be very harsh. And you're a beautiful boy, I worry about you. I don't want you upset but I'll stand by your decisions."
Eli is pretty close to tears at this speech but smiles again at the end. "So, what will you do?"
"...continuing that way."
The next day, he's on set to play Jasper, a young man whom is vintage amateur, finding an ancient radio with a play that could help some relative in science mission to evolved the world. But then he's sick because of this radio which had some virus and these relatives are here to heal him (win-win). He's just guest at this show and appears for only three episodes, and Jasper dies in the last because noone last long in S.C.I.3.N.C.E. But Cam is just excited to see him again and even if he doesn't promise anything, the young manager (only 7 years elder) is quite ambitious for his career.
When he comes at Hogwarts two weeks later, his father waited him in the great hall.
"Hello."
He swallows hardly when Tobias lifts his eyebrow.
"I know you're mad. I say I will come back the next morning which is two weeks ago but there is some things... That happen and I just- I was just stuck there."
"In your friend's house?" His dad suggest.
"Yeah. At her place."
"And why didn't you go to Wyatt?"
"I didn't want to bother him. And my friend said I don't bother her and her flatmates are pretty tolerates so-"
"Your friend really is a girl?"
"Yeah! Or by girl, you mean her age? Well, sure, she isn't too young and we can agree to say that she's more a woman than girl but it's safe! I won't do the same mistake like the last summer! I already promise and I wouldn't do that to her!"
"Aiden," his dad calls him to stop his rambles, "Why don't you tell me that you crash at your mum?"
Aiden sucks a breath. He stays silent because he's too stunned to think about a reply.
"...you know... ?"
Tobias uncrosses his arms to instead rub his temple, sighing. "I know I wasn't the best father with you and Cael, we could even agree me being the worst. But I understood that you looked for your mum. The women that I knotted while I was drunk. As I did with Thelma. And sure I didn't do anything to help you in your quest but, Aiden, it's not a coincidence if you're lull by her song at five after Claire asks me to give you some song to help you sleep. And I wasn't a perv who like watch some random muggle movie with a pregnant actress who looks like your mother. I admit that I'm not subtle but when I saw your act next to her, I think it was the best things to do. I did help you to fulfill your dream, right?"
Aiden is wordless at the end of his dad's speech. Wow, that is a surprise. He didn't know that he was so obvious. And that his dad could be so observant.
"And what do you think about that? That I found mum?" He supplies when his dad lifts his brows.
Tobias thinks about the right answer to give because he owns him this at least.
"What I think isn't more important than what you feel. So tell me, what do you think after having found your mother?"
"Complete. And in serenity about what I am doing."
"Good."
His dad smiles and he feels like to be on The Borough set facing once again the dad that he (Alden's character) looked for. He acts all shy and awkward like the last scene between Roger and Alden. But then his dad, the biological one, in front of him, talks again.
"But I still maintain what I think about your studies at Hogwarts. And since you're absent for the two last weeks, you have to get the N.E.W.T."
"Oh, come on, dad!"
"Even if you're already major in wizard world. But since you don't want to continue to be one you're still underage in muggle part, so under my guard. And I tell you to end your studies, and yeah, it's totally a paradox because it's magical study but you're the one who wants that to be in no-maj way."
He's cut by a stifle laugh and Aiden is totally mocking him.
"Someone sees too much the second season of The Borough, especially the new character," Aiden chants knowingly.
"Shut up. And go tell your twin that you're still alive."
"But he knows, he will feel a lack if I wasn't here anymore!"
The boy laughs out loud and escapes his dad's glare. Then he looks for his brother. Cael was with Loan, surprisingly, but this time they are talking and seem to share something. Little taken aback, he slows his steps and stops altogether to stare at them. Thinking they need this talk, Aiden move back to let them some time and goes to look for Eileen instead. Except, she's the one who find him. They chat awhile about what he'll do, because Eileen is like that, she knows all about him without them needing to speak out loud.
"I will end the scholarship then be living in the states to fulfill my dream."
"Living next to your mum?"
"Yeah, and do what I want. Play."
"Like a comedian?"
"Like an actor," and he places the DVDs that he received from Sissy (because at the end of the shooting everybody receives a copy of the final montage) in the blonde girl's hands.
The Goldstein arches a brow asking quietly a question but Aiden just smiles then moves back to his twin whom probably finished with the Potter.
"Hey, Cal," he calls him like when they are little.
Cael tilts his head and smiles at him, but his eyes show the suspicious while he responds lightly. "Yeah, Den?"
"I have something to talk to you."
"Sure. In privacy?"
Aiden looks around and shrugs. "It doesn't matter but why not?"
They walk awhile and sit on the edge of the black lack benefiting the May breeze. Then Aiden talks. He tells him everything. His quest since four, the promise he made again with Chloe, his hope boosted at eight when the nurse and his friend and colleague in muggle part, Kylian, found his origin of the name he was born with, his intention when he wanted to make potions, his adventure at New York and what Chloe and Kylian gave him by introducing him to the Brooks seniors. Then, how he found their mother, how they went and played together and how he discovers that she forgot them because of their magic.
"And you still want to be with her?"
His brother thinks about it.
"Yeah, maybe it's because she's ginger but I'm feel more attached to her."
Or maybe it's because they lost her for too long now. But neither of them say it out loud.
"Ok. It's...good, I think. I mean, you could fill the lack you always feel about the fact we don't have a mother."
"Yeah, I hope so."
They stay silent for awhile.
"So, she called you Eli?" Cael asks after a beat of silence.
"Yeah, Eli Brooks. But I think I will change that to Aden Eli Brooks for the appearance."
Cael hums.
"Do you want to know yours? The name she gave you, I mean."
Cael stay mute but the redhead doesn't press him. It's his choice. "Yeah. I would like."
This night, Cael is lulled by knowing what his first name is before his dad forced them to adopt the one he currently has. And he smiles a bit too much when he lets the name slide between his tongue.
Ethan Brooks.
He doesn't and won't know but he acts exactly like his brother when he first knew it.
This summer, when all his little friends of the 30 legends (so they are) discovers he's and will be actor, they are quite surprised but mostly supporting. And it's pretty rewarding. Things are little accelerated when they have to welcome Lev Lingtren among them but basically, his profession is accepted.
Then, for their eighteenth birthday, Aiden chooses to make big. He offers to his brother his muggle identity and a travel to the United States. In private jet.
"Wow, awesome! But you could just give a place to normal plane it's not a bother."
"There are too much check up and waiting, and I want to be there today."
"You're too ambitious," Cael huffs a laugh.
"Not really, muggle- I mean no-maj technologies are pretty great now."
Plus, he doesn't know but he has some success thanks to The Borough (and soon the S.C.I.3.N.C.E) and he'll be late if he take the normal flight.
They arrive in the States eight hours later and Aiden insists (well, Cameron did) they wear sunglasses to walk unknowingly. The red hair bring the blonde everywhere he's fond of since discovering it last year and they spend two hours to fool around. It's only at 8pm, when the sun is setting that they calm a bit. Aiden leads them to a peaceful quarter where everything's so calm.
"Where are we?" Cael asks when it's clear that his brother won't do any move.
He can at least say anything. "In front of the Jenson place."
"Yeah, and?"
Aiden smiles. "There she is."
And no more word is said. The living room's light is the only one lit up and there are some shape which are shifting behind the closed curtain. Cael looks at the pretty house with a new light and could nearly hear all the happiness and love inside.
"How old is the eldest?" He whispers, like he's afraid to break the moment.
"Twelve. She's only five years younger than us."
"Ah, five, the year when you wake up in panic sobbing that you forgot how she is."
"Yeah, this year."
"Like you really have some connection with her. Well, it's cut this time but you did before."
"I feel you," Aiden pats his brother shoulder.
They stay for another few minutes staring at the house, little envious of the family ambiance, the one they hadn't have. Then, in common thought, they decide to crash in Devon/Rowle, it's not like they had any other solution.
And the next day, when he receives the mail from his mum that she will attend his first filming of Tention at his godmother role, he smiles so wide that his cheeks hurt for a while.
