7. Matt

Pedro told the brothers to stop some distance from the nuclear power station. In case of explosion. 

He also told them to wait for them in the cars because using guns and all would be useless when the four of the Five were together.

Richard had to stay in the car too. And prepare to burn the village he was held captive to destroy all evidences. They left the white man behind without telling him if he was joking. He wasn't. 

"Stay close to me. It's full of radiation and I'm your only safety." 

"Yes, you already said it a hundred times." 

However, they didn't expect to feel the heat. Feeling a little in hurry, they stepped up the pace.

"Matteo! Come on, you have to call on him to show him we're really here! Like we told him in the dream!"

"I'm not going to call him Matteo." 

"Matt!" 

"Matt, we came for you as promised!" 

Because only 74 miles separated them the last few nights, it was easy for them to find each other in the dream. Though, they were a bit bummed to not catch a sight of Scar each time. And the few times they did meet, it was on separate occasion, making it look like a skit to mess with Matt who wasn't aware they already knew each other or that two of them were a set of twin. Pedro didn't help either, never telling Scott Matt's actual name and misleading him to call their leader Matteo the first time they talked. 

Now, Scott's adamant in not miscalling the other boy.

Despite the heat and all the radioactive acid they came across, they got no answer or even sigh that their leader heard them. Until all the radioactive acid went flying to the deepest part of the facility. Suddenly, Matt's barged before them, stopping them in their progression and ushered them out of the place quickly.

"What's happening? Why did the acid went flying in your position before you came running exactly from here?"

"Thanks to your presence, I tapped into your force to boost my 'power' and had, somehow, use telekinesis to fly everything at hand to defeat the monster's huge hand."

"Chaos' back?!" 

"No, just the hand! Well, I hope he's not anymore after the acid and the witches' corpses that flew at him. And us too if we don't leave now!" 

Now that he mentioned it, there was indeed a suction force trying to bring them to the inner part of the building. 

"So Marsh managed to go through his ritual?"

"You knew it was him!?" 

"Hey, you didn't want to believe us while in the dream, so you wouldnt either if we told you that this unassuming old man was the real villain." 

"It's either. And yes, he succeeded in cutting my torso. The prickle of blood was enough to open the Raven's Gate."

"Hopefully, all the radiation would be enough to close it again. Without us, would be better." 

They finally stepped out of the hellish place and made sure to distance themselves enough to not be taken by the distorsion that sucked the entire station in.

A minute later, everything stilled and the four just knew the gate closed again. 

"What the hell."

They turned to look at an gobsmacked Richard. 

"Richard! You're alive!" 

"I'm still not sure I really am." 

"You are, senor Cole! My healing power only works on the livings!" 

"Oh. Is that so? And you can call me Richard." 

"What do we do with the corpse in the van? And the van itself, actually?"

"Burn it with the village." 

Matt jumped ever so slighthly. Jamie still caught it. 

"We have to get rid of the evidences. What do you think the media, or the government, will say once they learn that a whole village got annihilated with the nuclear power station? The very same village they sent a pupil for their ridiculous project?"

A beat of silence as everyone considered the actual answer. 

"They will say it's your fault. And although it is, it's not like we can tell them you were fighting a coven of witch, who would believe that? In lack of proof? But you did well in taking care of them by yourself."

"Truthfully, they set themselves up. Although they said they have protective barrier against the heat and radiation, it wasn't enough against - against the Old Ones."

"Chaos' hand, as you say." 

"Still, if we burn down the village with the corpse, we can fake your death and no one will ever look for you. Sir Marsh's house too, now we're at it."

"Then hop in the car, we don't have all night." 

"Well, Richard, mind sitting in the one with the corpse again? We have to chat some more with Matt. New addition and all that."

Richard probably didn't know what were the 'all that' one of the twin was referring but he's taken too off-guard and what can he actually say when he's dealing with arsonist and super-powered kids?

So they got to Lesser Malling, threw the corpse of Dempton and the car in the middle of the fire and prevent the blaze from spreading thanks to Matt's power by having him psychologically move stone and put them as barrier.

Then, Micos took back his jeep and drove back Richard to his place so he could spent the rest of the night.

Matt had wanted a last stop at the farm of late Tom Burgess. A good man who thought about saving Matt and lost his life in the midst of the crazy witchcraft. He probably didn't even got a proper burial with all that faking him being alive and all. But Atoc remarked it was late and they're all tired of this day, so they'll just stop by Hive Hall that's closer and see into Tom Burgess' case the next day. 

"Matt kind. Me not. But Matt got us free ham with the detour, so not complaining." 

By stopping to Mrs. Deverill's farm and barn, they burnt the last of the witch's traces (and the empty portrait, implying it was really the woman herself in the drawing) and took the livestocks for themselves. It's not like anyone could take care of it. And finally, they went to spend the night at Michael Marsh's mansion, before having to burn it by morning.

Gas leak, you see. They couldn't fake a body so the twins had the police fetch Tom Burgess' remaining and make everyone believe it's the scientist. Now the farmer had a proper burial en even a grandiose one, and no one would question it's not the real one since the face are mauled either way. 

"Now, that we've dealt with everything that could retrace to you, let's pick up Holly and look for Scar, the last member!"

"Hm, I hate to break it to you but there's actually still one last thing to deal with. I'm not sure it's that much of importance since she's just a failure of guardian, but my aunt was supposed to keep track of me and report to the police and those taking care of L.E.A.F project."

Instead of being annoyed to have more things to do, Pedro actually looked delight. New adults to screw their life over. 

They had to pick up Richard Cole first.

Because they shut down him writing their crazy story, they had to give him something in return. Since since colleagues knew about Matt and how he had looked into Lesser Malling that's no more, he could just pretend he's looking into the kid's past and caught his former guardians in red hand.

About what, he (and Matt) will discover soon. 

Scott didn't want any part of it and volunteered to bring the jeep back to Holly's village and also giving her the occasion to see her former foster family again. Atoc was the one to drive them there while they used Richard's car to drive to Ipswich, to look more legit.

Also, because they had to drop by miss Ashwood's place to give her back her car and pick up Holly, Matt and Richard got the chance to sort of apologize to her, for not believing her. She didn't hold it against them and even offer them to have the door of St Meredith's church free to use. Scott thanked her since he will be using it twice to bring both Atoc and Holly to London, in absence of car. Matt and Richard didn't think they were actually forgiven as they still have to drive a four hours drive to someplace that Matt didn't even like.

"OK, Matt, stay outside and hidden. Richard, you come in at the signal." 

"Ready, Jamie?" 

"Ready, Pedro!" 

They burst open in 27, Eastfield Terrace. Screams didn't have time to be heard that Jamie had mind controlled both residents. Soon, Pedro's voice went through the walls of the house. Shouting about rape and human trafficking. 

Outside, both Matt and Richard exchanged a horrified look. 

Then, when the neighbors (neighbours) started to pound on the door, Richard had to step in as it was his cue. Soon, the police got involved and the neighbourhood of Eastfield Terrace spread the words that Gwenda Davis and her partner Brian Conran were child predators and trafficked human, especially young foreign boys of color. Like in the USA (and everywhere in the world, really), child predators and sexual offenders were really bad seen even among criminals. Both were mauled to death not long into their sentences. 

Richard got his article published but felt like a cheater. And he even used the official reason of his presence in London's suburbs from Yorkshire of what the boys told him.

Despite the twins never even brushing his mind with their power, he had the feeling to be manipulated.

Matt pitied him, even more when Pedro looked satisfied. Another loose end tied.

Now, to Scar. 

Who thanks to miss Ashwood's connection, the chief inspector David Tarrant of Scotland yard, they knew who's the girl of the Five. Scarlett Adams. 

And another reason for Matt and Richard to look forward to go to London, professor Sanjay Dravid's alive.
