Part 4 Harry Potter and the life he wish to have

  • It was four days before his birthday Harry received the letter.

It was in some weird papyrus with elegant writings addressed to his name, detailing even the room he's sleeping in. Quite unnerving to be honest.

As if a stranger was watching him.

Turned out he was right. And as soon as he read the letter, he wrote an answer back because the content looked like utter crap.

No way he could be an animosity, uncle Vernon despised anormality and aunt Petunia always told him that he's a normal boy. If anyone's special at 4, Priviet Drive, it would be Dudley because he's one wonder boy, according to Petunia Dursley. Harry tended to believe her words, his cousin was some sort of wonder by how much sweets he could eat yet still be athletic enough to keep up with Harry's own jogging routine. Piers would always give up after two laps, the dunceface, and then call them freaks.

Right, it was a joke from Piers Polkiss, surely. The boy never liked him despite him being Dudley number two in their friend group. To be fair, Harry didn't like any of Dudley's friends but the Dursley noted how his presence could prevent one too many of Dudley's outburst so he's forced to hang with his cousin's friends.

He'd rather keep to himself and learn new things instead of playing stupid and violent game. He's not really a scholar but he knew for sure that any of his feats made Petunia satisfied, so he always thrived to be one good boy and help out his dear cousin. After all, he was leaving under their wings.

Anyway, as he thought it was only a nasty prank from Piers, he wasn't going to send a proper response back with a stamp and all, but fearing the meerkat-looking boy would tattle him to Dudley if he only dare ignore him, he used the back of the three letters and wrote the same thing.

    No, thanks.

Before tucking them all back in the envelope. Only then, he noticed there wasn't any stamp either, confirming him that it could only be Piers who wrote him and personally delivered it into the Dursley letter box. So Harry slided back the letter outside with their adress crossed out and with 'to Hogwarts' written instead. Like, if Piers wanted to kid, Harry must give him what he wanted.

Except, he got another letter the day of his birthday.

The Dursley and Harry were staying at home for him. It was his wish, although Vernon earn enough to pay the two boys anything Harry knew that it was different than celebrating a boy he fostered than feast the brithday of his beloved son and because Harry's well aware of that he didn't feel like making them spend money for him. Besides, after the visit to the zoo for Dudley's birthday over a month ago told him that he better stay at home and not make himself suspicious.

Like, he doubted it happened but just thinking or fantasming about it was prohibited, so clearly, if he assumed that he spoke to a the boa constrictor even for a split moment, it was best that he stay confined in the safety of the house. Now, that he went to check the front step after hearing a noise outside, he didn't feel that much safe once his eyes fell on the same letter.

He took it and hid it inconspicuously under his shirt before returning to his own. Later in the night, he wrote the same answer at the back of each letter before adding 'do not return' right besides 'to "Hogwarts"', quoting heavily the address to show his incredulity. He throw it out of the window because he didn't feel like going down to slide it under the door like last time.

The same letter came back right at dawn.

Well, not the same one because the address changed into 'please read it carefully' instead of detailing his room. And that stopped Harry because even for a prank, Piers wouldn't go that far, right? But then, that meant there were actuals wizards that wanted to contact him and he wasn't sure if it was better.

He decided it wasn't after reading the letter later in the day.

With the usuals two pages, there was another one with the same writings asking him why he wouldn't take this oppotunity as it was one and million chance for him. And that if he would, please, return the letter by owl instead of casting it on the ground for the owl to pick it. Said owl was watching him with predator eyes outside of his window. Harry decided that he really didn't like that.

So, right on the back of the third letter, he wrote his answer. He was already enrolled into another school and had no interest in learning whatever they teach at their special boarding school, besides, he didn't have the money to purchase any of the furnitures and if they would, please, stop sending him those letters that unnerved him and disturbed his day activities.

He thought it was it when he didn't received anything in the following days, though his dreams were filled of those haunting eyes of the owl, chasing him around in broad daylight. But then the owl appeared again one afternoon and he almost spill out his water back into the bottle and could only be relieved that he was outside playing with miss Figg's cats in Wisteria Walk. He borrowed a pen from her to write his answer. The person requested a meeting with him so they could speak in person, he rejected it categorically and talked about stranger danger and glared at the owl.

Three days later, the person insisted saying they may be stranger, they knew his parents and that attending the boarding school would help him know his parents better. Harry almost relented at that before remembering what his aunt Petunia told him about said parents. Because they were not normal, they lost their life and that's why Petunia liked him for being so normal so he could live longer. He stated they're deceased in much less respectful way of writing.

The following letters were apologies for offending him. After the first, he refused to open any other letters and even threatened the flying messengers if they kept showing up during the day. And then, the letters stopped coming altogether.

Until two days before back to school.

A letter came but with its messenger showing up too. Harry slamed the door on this distinguished woman's face and felt only a little sorry before retreating to the kitchen where Petunia was getting ready for tea time. She looked at him oddly before checking the clock. None of Vernon or Dudley were present, the first still at work and be out in a hour and the second out with friends while Harry pretended to check if he's prepared for school as not everyone got the chance to be enrolled at Smelting like his cousin.

The ring at the door chimed again, telling them the person was still there.

Petunia raised a brow at him, silently asking him why wasn't he checking it out like he did and Harry's throat's dry. His hands started to sweat and he was looking everywhere but at her, hoping really hard the ring will stay quiet.

Not such look. And it was wearing on his aunt's patience who marched to the door, quickly followed by her nerphew.

It went as good as he feared.

Despite him insisting that can't be true and it was a well pulled prank, Petunia's horrified look told him everything was true.

He was a wizard, so were his parents that passed ten years ago, that he was a freak that the Dursley didn't want anything to do with and that he will attend Hogwarts. Harry wished he could tear up the letter in professor MacGonnagall's hand to show how much he was pleased by this decision.
